Vacations create the some of the most valuable memories for a family. But sometimes, they can also be the source of some major stress. And we’re talking the kind of stress that makes you want to pull out your hair. There are few things as rewarding as seeing the joy on your kid’s face during a vacation, but it takes a little bit of planning to get there. In order to avoid any and all hair pulling, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best things to do with your kids in St. Martin, so that you can just focus on making those memories.
Of course, the number one thing to do in St. Martin and Sint Maarten is to go to the beach! Nothing beats a day under the sun and by the water. In order to make your relaxing as possible for you and safe for the little ones, choose a beach that has little to no waves and lots of shade. Some of our favorite kid-friendly beaches are Galion Beach and Friar’s Beach on the French side. If you’re on the Dutch side head over to Great Bay Beach for crystal clear water and plenty of umbrellas and chairs.
I scream, you scream, and we know your kids definitely scream for ice cream. So, take them to get Gelato instead! Gelato is basically ice cream’s tastier, creamier sister (trust us, you kids will love this even if they’re the pickiest of eaters). While you’re snacking on the creamy delicious at Carousel Gelato you can hop on their amazing, fully functional vintage carousel! Carousel Gelato is a can’t miss on the island and one of the stops on our Culinary Road Trip food tour!
We know what you’re thinking – you’ve taken you kids to the zoo a million times before. But this zoo is different! As the largest zoo in the Caribbean (and home to the largest playground in Sint Maarten), this zoo is far from boring. Check out the monkeys, exotic birds, petting zoo, and local animals like the red footed tortoise.
For a full day of fun activities head over to Loterie Farms in St. Martin. This is one of our favorite places for kids in St. Martin purely because of all of the different things to do. Want to relax by the pool in your own personal cabana? Check. Looking to tire your little ones out with a hike? Check. Are you a family of adrenaline junkies? Check to that too! At Loterie Farms you can rent a poolside cabana, go on guided or self-guided hikes to one of the most beautiful views in St. Martin, or fly through the trees in their different zip-line courses. There really is something for everyone and every age at Loterie Farms.
Swimming with dolphins is fun, but have you ever swam with a horse? Your kids will love the chance to explore Sint Maarten while on riding on top of a horse. At the end of the trail, you and your horse can even go for a little swim in the ocean. Seaside Nature Park offers many different types of horseback riding trails and no horseback riding experience is necessary.
Plane Watch at Maho Beach
Get your family’s blood pumping at Maho Beach as you watch the incredibly low flying planes fly into Princess Juliana International Airport. You can watch the action up close and personal right at Maho Beach, or you can grab a bite to eat at one of the nearby seaside restaurants. While this activity is a blast (wink, wink), we recommend that families with little ones be careful due to the large gusts of wind and loud noise from the planes.
If you have a child who believes they belong in The Little Mermaid then snorkeling is the best way to spend a few hours. St. Martin is home to many beautiful snorkeling spots like Simpson Bay and Mullet Beach. Be prepared to find colorful fish, cool reef formations, and maybe even a turtle or a sting ray! Some of the best snorkeling in St. Martin is actually just a short ferry ride away at Pinel Island. If you do decide to go to Pinel than you can also…
Go hiking! Pinel Island is a tiny island right off the coast of St. Martin. Not only can you snorkel there and enjoy a fun beach day, but the island is also a really fun place to hike and explore. You can find local iguanas, secret beaches, and the perfect spot for a picnic!
Did you really go to the Caribbean if you didn’t swim with a dolphin? This is one of the most classic things to do on a family vacation because it makes for some of the best memories! At Dolphin Discovery in Anguilla you can make these fun memories and even explore another island while doing it. Located just a few minutes from Sint Maarten by ferry, Anguilla boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and even friendlier dolphins!
Your kids will feel like they’re walking right into a Disney movie at The Butterfly Farms. Surround yourself with over 100 different types of exotic and beautiful butterflies while learning about their life cycles. The butterflies will even flutter and land on you!
